    Default Marco Polo Land

Does anyone recall a place in either Georgia or South Carolina called "Marco Polo Land" On a trip to Florida (along the I-95 route with it's various detours) in 1975 we saw signs for this place. On a return trip in 1977 we again saw the signs and decided to check it out. We followed the directions on the sign but it led us to nowhere! Any clues, or did my wife and I visit the Twilite Zone?

It is sorta the Twlight Zone -- I think it was torn down about twenty years ago, I believe it was right off I-95 near St. Augustine, Florida. I will try and look it up, in my research stuff.

    I guess there were two...

Here's a reference to one in Florida I think, from 2005

Carter, as trustee of the Carter-Marco Polo Land Trust, sold 12.56 acres in Flagler County toThomas N. Cooke of the Lighthouse Development Group Inc. and Old Dixie Partners LLC. for$1.5 million. The tract is on the northwest corner of 1-95 and Dixie Highway.

And... there is a campground on Prince Edward's Island called "Marco Polo Land"... a bit distant from Florida

The Northern Florida location must be it. I'm glad it's not just a fig-newton of my immagination!
TY for helping preserve my sanity for just a bit longer!

  5. Default Marco Polo Land did indeed exist!

It was only open for a few years in the mid-70's. I went there several times. It was a wonderful place. I was hoping to find someone with some photos of it.
