      Located in West Penobscot Bay at the entrance to Rockland Harbor and accessible by land at Owls Head State Park, this historic lighthouse is one of the most picturesque in Maine. Three days a week, the lighthouse tower is open to the public. See the Fourth order Fresnel light, still active and now automated. From the top, you'll have tremendous views of the Rockland Harbor, Penobscot Bay and passing ships and schooners.

      If you go:
      Free admission to Owls Head State Park. Donation requested to enter tower. Short walk from parking lot. Wheelchair accessible to below the tower for a view. In 2011, tower open Wednesday afternoon and on Saturday and Sunday. Check website for current hours. GPS coordinates: 44 05 33 N 69 02 39 W.
