• Fort Clinch State Park - Fernandina Beach, Florida

      Roadtrip Attraction
Swimming, fishing, camping, hiking, biking and a whole lot of history are packed into this Florida state park. The 19th century fort is where visitors can get a history lesson from tour-guides in period costume. Anglers can sink a line from the expansive pier or surf fish from shore. Camp sites are located behind sand dunes on the Atlantic Ocean side of the park, or in the wooded campground skirting the Amelia River. Shell collecting is a favorite among visitors. Watching the boats and ships pass by is great entertainment. Keep a vigil for the modern-day submarines that pass close to shore.

      If you go:
Special events take place each month at the park, so be sure to check the web site for a listing. Camping reservations are almost a must at this popular park (as of July 2011 the beachside campgrond is temporarily closed due to renovations). There are plenty of restaurants nearby, while the park offers and array of spots to picnic.
