• Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary - Ramah, New Mexico

      More than 50 wolves and wolf-dogs reside at this sanctuary in the New Mexico mountains southeast of Gallup. Four daily tours are offered so you can get up close to the residents and learn more about wolf behavior, differences between dogs and wolves, and the sanctuary's mission. If you're lucky, you'll hear them howl!

      If you go:
      Open Tuesday through Sunday with four tours daily. Fee. Photo and feeding tours available at additional cost with advance reservations. Snack bar serves hamburgers and hotdogs. Primitive camping spots available for tents and RVs. (Fee)

        Introduction of wolves back into North America is a complex issue. The wolves that were introduced back into Yellowstone have not remained there and the packs are expanding both in size and territory. There is more than speculation that some packs now hunt as far south as Arizona. So, I'm not in favor of human meddling in complex animal populations. Mark
