Founded in 1947, this 170,000-acre national park is centered on the Sierra de San Pedro Martir - the highest mountain range in the peninsular cordillera. Like other northern Baja California Sierras, the San Pedro Martir tips toward the west, with its highest peaks thrusting out along the precipitous eastern escarpment. The park is home to Picacho del Diablo (Devil's Peak) -- also known as Cerro de la Encantada (Enchanted Mountain) and La Providencia (Providence).
