• Grand Union Hotel - Fort Benton, Montana

      Roadtrip Attraction
The Grand Union Hotel first opened in 1882, making it the oldest operating hotel in Montana (the state itself didn't exist until 7 years later). Standing proudly on the banks of the Missouri River, a location for which Fort Benton itself, "The Birthplace of Montana", owes its existence, it has become a Montana landmark.

      If you go:
The railroads, prohibition, the Great Depression, neglect and financial mismanagement have all contributed to the Grand's checkered history, it was closed throughout most of the 1980s and 90s, but in 1999 it reopened, restored to its full glory as a result of a multi-million dollar investment. Today it is once again renowned for its splendid decor, luxurious rooms and excellent restaurant, and is the ideal base from which to explore Fort Benton's many attractions.
