• City of Rocks State Park - Faywood, New Mexico

      Roadtrip Attraction
The wonderful rock formations within this one square mile site were formed from volcanic ash almost 35 million years ago and have been sculpted by the elements ever since. Take a walk between, under and over the rocks and enjoy not only the incredible formations themselves but also the panoramic views of the surrounding country. There's a visitor center, botanical garden, picnic areas and good camping/RV facilities.

      If you go:
The night skies are incredibly dark making it an ideal location for star-gazing; there's an observatory on site with its own 14-inch telescope.

I can vouch for New Mexico State Hwy. 61 being a 20-mile scenic drive. In addition, the City of Rocks State Park is lots of fun.
