This property became Jack London's home and sanctuary. Born in Oakland and and internationally famous and financially successful by age 30, London loved this beautiful area. He and his wife lived in a cottage and developed Beauty Ranch while working on Wolf House, his dream house. Wolf House burned to the ground before they could move in, all that is left is the stone work. London died shortly after that at age 40. Trails take you to various outbuildings on the farm, his cottage and London Lake. The visitor center, in The House of Happy Walls that his wife, Charmian, built after he died, houses the visitor center with exhibits about his life.
