The first freestanding Holocaust Memorial in the United States, the center uses exhibits, films and guest lectures to honor the memory of Holocaust victims and the bravery of those who resisted it, and to preserve its lessons for future generations in an effort to promote tolerance. Knowledgeable guides lead you through the various sections of the museum representing the different stages of the historical saga, including a simulated experience of being herded onto a boxcar to be hauled off to a concentration camp.
If you go:
The center is closed on Saturdays, and no guided tours are available on Fridays. Try to go on a Sunday if possible. You may be able to meet and hear a presentation by a Holocaust survivor.
