• Original Edgar Allan Poe Grave - Baltimore, Maryland

Few people have two graves, but Edgar Allan Poe is one such person. Luckily both gravesites are in the same cemetery. He was originally buried in an unmarked plot in the back of the grounds. In 1875, after years of debate, fund raising, and various other problems his grave along with his family were moved to the current spot in the front of the cemetery. An interesting side note is that his date of birth is incorrect on the monument headstone. He was born January 19, not the 20th.

      If you go:
The raven headstone stands at his original gravesite and the large, stately monument marking the spot he is currently interred is found just as you enter the gate from Fayette Street. Tours are offered of the Westminster Hall and grounds. The outside grounds where the Poe gravesites are found are free to visit 8:00 a.m. until nightfall, but only guided tours are offered inside the church and catacombs.
