• Russian Orthodox Church - Ninilchik, Alaska

Great photo op and views! Built in 1901 in the oldest settlement on the Kenai Peninsula, this Russian Orthodox Church with its five golden onion domes overlooks the Cook Inlet and has views of volcanic peaks Mt. Iliamna and Mt. Redoubt on the other side of the inlet. Originally established as a Russian settlement, many descendants populate Ninilchik today. ]

      If you go:
Halfway between Soldotna and Homer, Ninilchik is a good spot to fuel up and to wander around the historic part of town. Pick up a copy of "Tour of Ninilchik Village" and enjoy the historic buildings. Ninilchik is also known for the Kenai Peninsula Fair, fishing and clamming.
