Although only a short drive off the US Highway 95 highway, these stunning mountains and rock formations just outside of Beatty are usually missed. The Beatty Mudmound is famous for its fossils from the ancient crustaceans, gastropods and fauna from 480 million years ago. The mineral-rich area has had a few mines come and go as well. The abandoned Fluorspar Cabin, once used by the Fluorspar Mine, can be found on the right about 3.5 miles in. A great spot for photographers and rock hounds alike!
If you go:
The road into the mountains seems to be well maintained and should be fine for any vehicle. Bighorn sheep live in the area, and burros may be spotted by the Amargosa River which you drive over at the turnoff from the US Highway 95.
