• Nevada Southern Railway Historical Marker - Goffs, California

From 1893 to 1923 The Nevada Southern Railway ran from Goffs, California to Barnwell (later called Manvel), where it connected to the Barnwell & Searchlight Railway. Today, you can drive on the Lanfair Road which was built on the grade of the former rail line. There is a large Joshua tree forest as well as desert scenery and wildlife opportunities along the way. It is a great scenic drive.

      If you go:
From Goffs, Lanfair Road is not maintained or paved, but can be driven on by most vehicles. However, high-clearance, 4-WD is best. Avoid this road if rain is likely. It is slow moving due to some rough patches. Mid Hills Campground is about 18 miles away and Hole In The Wall Campground is about 20 miles. Both can be reached by following Old Government Road west from the historical marker.
