• Empire Mine State Historic Park - Grass Valley, California

      Step back in time to the California Gold Rush! During 106 years of operation, Empire Mine produced 5.8 million ounces of gold. Tour the historic buildings remaining from the operation, the grounds and cottage. Miles of hiking trails take you through more than 100 years of hardrock mining history through the foothills of the Sierras.

      If you go:
      The park is open daily except for major holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission charged, children under 6 are free. Several guided and self-guided tours are included in the admission, additional fee for the Cottage Living History Experience. Some areas not easily accessible for wheelchairs, wide-tire wheelchairs available. Pets allowed on grounds and trails on leash. Services available in nearby Grass Valley or Nevada City.
