The Old Los Angeles Zoo is one of the best kept secret spots in Griffith Park. As the name implies, this was the original city zoo, which opened in 1912 and closed in 1966. The cages and enclosures were simply abandoned and forgotten. Today, the city has installed park benches and cleaned the area up making it one of the more unique places to have a picnic.

      If you go:
There is a free parking lot off of Griffith Park Drive. The Old Los Angele Zoo is a very short walk away, just follow the dirt trail through the trees. There is a lot of graffiti art inside the structures that can be viewed from the gates and windows. The Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Sign are both nearby.
