• Mission San Miguel Arcangel - San Miguel, California

One of several historic missions that were instrumental in California's development, Mission San Miguel was established here in 1797. After the original was destroyed by a fire, the current structure was built between 1806 and 1821. Currently an operating church providing services in both English and Spanish, as well as a museum, the mission offers a glimpse into the state's colorful history. The building retains much of its original appearance, with the interior remaining unpainted since the Mission's opening, with original murals still on display.
