In the days before the Strip, Fremont Street was Las Vegas' No.1 destination, the heart of downtown and home to such landmarks as the Golden Nugget casino and so many neon signs - including Vegas Vic, the famous cowboy sign - that it was nicknamed Glitter Gulch. It still attracts millions of visitors every year, many drawn by the Fremont Street Experience, an incredible music and light show based on a 90-ft canopy incorporating 12.5 million LEDs and more than half a million watts of amplification.

      If you go:
The big news now is the redevelopment of Fremont Street south of the Fremont Street experience area -- a burgeoning area of live music clubs, coffee houses and restaurants.

        Hi Peter.

We had the pleasure of spending one night at the Golden Nugget in 2013 before moving up to the Flamingo for the rest of our Vegas stay. Certainly worth the visit. Thought it was tacky in the day time but at night, a completely different story. Like a huge party. Lots of color and so much to look at. Roof is amazing. I'd go back for another look.
