The Rogue River in southwest Oregon offers a wealth of leisure opportunities - from floating to fishing - but did you know it's also a great place to look for placer gold (flecks of gold mixed in stream gravel)? This wayside is one of four in the Medford District where you can experience the fun and excitement of standing knee-deep in a free-flowing river panning for gold. All you need is a pan, patience and maybe a little luck.

      If you go:
Gold Nugget Wayside is located 2.3 miles north of the appropriately named town of Gold Hill on Highway 234 (follow the signs for Crater Lake). As well as a small parking area, there are also restrooms and interpretive boards.
