A visit to Hannibal must include the homes and sites that inspired Mark Twain in his Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn books, but another place to go is Riverview Park with views of the Mississippi River and a memorial to Samuel Clemens. The park has several scenic overlooks, hiking trails, picnic tables and a playground. It is peaceful and serene up on the bluff.

      If you go:
Take a picnic lunch and take a nice hike on the paved trails, but don't miss the statue of Samuel Clemens gazing out on his favorite river, the 'Old Muddy".
