If you are a Route 66 history buff, the quick off-and-on at the small town of Alanreed will provide a neat relic of the old days - a Texaco Station that once operated on the old route. Of course, it is closed now, but still has all the authentic signs and accoutrements as they were.
If you go:
This side trip won't cost you more than ten minutes if you are traveling eastbound, and I-40 has an exit and entrance at opposite ends of town. Westbound traffic has a little more difficulty with exit and entrance, but it's worth the stop. There is also a little Baptist church up the hill that also belongs to the Route 66 era or before.
