• Bird Cage Theatre - Tombstone, Arizona

The Bird Cage Theatre, one of the few original buildings in Tombstone, opened as a music hall, bar, casino and bordello in 1881 and operated 24 hours a day until the doors closed in 1889 (during which time, it is reputed, one continuous 8 year poker game took place). It then remained boarded up until 1934, when it was reopened as a tourist attraction. The mirrors, paintings, chandeliers, gaming tables and many other furnishings are the same as they were in 1881 and some rooms have only just been reopened after more than 125 years; it may be dusty and faded but it really does offer a window into the past.

      If you go:
The theatre is open daily from 8.00 until 6.00, and there are nightly ghost tours from Wed through Sat.
