Frenchman Coulee is just about the only reason there is an exit on I-90 at mile marker 143. The road winds down for seven miles to the Columbia River with cliffs, hiking trails and a spiky formation called "The Arrows" along the way. It is a rock climbers paradise as well as a good nature sanctuary. Waterfalls flow off the cliffs during the wet season of the year, too.
If you go:
Fee area. Drive north on Silica Road and turn left onto Vantage Road to get onto the rim road for the Coulee. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the view.
