• Maidu Museum and Historic Site - Roseville, California

      Many centuries before the Caucasian settlers arrived in California, the Maidu Indians made their home in this region. Today, traces of their culture are preserved at this museum and historic site, which features a wooded nature trail that harbors a variety of flora and fauna, and takes you past several petroglyphs, grinding pits and other archaeological remnants. The attached museum showcases additional artifacts, as well as contemporary Native American art, and offers educational activities for school groups, ranging from acorn grinding to spear throwing. Archery classes, film screenings and other special events are also offered.

      If you go:
      Open Monday through Friday 9:00 to 4:00 and Saturday 9:00 to 1:00, as well as the third Saturday evening of the month from 6:30 to 8:30. Tours on Saturday morning at 10:00. No photography allowed inside museum.
