Once the most important link between Northern and Southern Arizona by rail and highway, the now quiet town of Ash Fork remains an important milestone for those following Route 66. Head west from here and you can follow US 66 all the way to Kingman, 92 miles away, the longest stretch of original, uninterrupted highway along the entire route. The town also offers a superb range of photo opportunities, with gradually fading signs revealing the presence of abandoned motels, stores and diners.

      If you go:
If you have time, Ash Fork is also home to a small visitor centre and Route 66 museum - turn left on 8th Street just before you leave town and continue along Old Hwy 66.
