• Joplin Museum Complex - Joplin, Missouri

      Roadtrip Attraction
Located in Schefferdecker Park next to a water park and a golf course, the Joplin Museum Complex features 5 intriguing little museums under one roof for one very modest admission charge. The Everett J. Ritchie Tri-State Mineral Museum pays tribute to Joplin's history as a zinc and lead mining town. The other museums are The Joplin Sports Authority Sports Hall Of Fame, The Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum, The Empire District Electric Company Museum and The National Historical Cookie Cutter Museum. How's that for variety? You also might get a kick our of the 'graveyard' of mining equipment and other machinery outside the museum complex.

      If you go:
Closed Sunday and Monday. Free admission and extended hours on Tuesday. While you're in town, you might want to check out the Spirit Tree, located on the 1400 block of East 20th Street. Damaged by the devastating tornado that struck Joplin in 2011, the tree was artistically painted on the first anniversary of the disaster, in a fashion that reflects the symbolism of Native American artwork, and now stands as an emblem of pride, courage and resilience.
