• Hinds County Courthouse - Raymond, Mississippi

      Constructed in 1857-59 by George and Thomas Weldon in the Greek Revival architectural style, this is one of the oldest continually operated courthouses in the nation. During the Civil War, it briefly served as a hospital for confederate wounded. It has been named by the Smithsonian as one of the ten most perfect examples of Southern architecture in the United States.

      The courthouse is currently being renovated but you can get good views of this classic structure from Main Street. Pick up a brochure which lists more historic homes and sites in Raymond at the Chamber of Commerce.
