• WaterFire - Providence, Rhode Island

      Roadtrip Attraction
      Every summer, downtown Providence is the site of this unique art installation that doubles as a street festival. The brainchild of artist Barnaby Evans, WaterFire features about one hundred fires installed on the city's three rivers, accompanied by music and other entertainment. Booths sell food and other items. Altogether, a most magical and memorable experience.

      If you go:
      Suggested donation to attend the event is five dollars. There is some variation in the schedule, but WaterFire generally is held every other Saturday, June through October. The lighting of the fires begins at Waterplace Basin a few minutes after sunset.

        Highly recommended! We lived in Rhode Island when Waterfire first began and make it a point to catch the latest incarnation every trip back.
