• Surprise Canyon, Waterpocket Fold - Capitol Reef National Park,

      Roadtrip Attraction
Hike into the undulating Waterpocket Fold of Capitol Reef National Park - a geologic wrinkle in time. The colors are outstanding and bands of color seem to rise out of the earth, reaching for the sky. This easy hike is just a little over 2 miles round trip.

      If you go:
Trailhead is on the west side of the Notom-Bullfrog Road, 35 miles south of Highway 24 and 1.8 miles south of the Notom-Bullfrog junction with the Burr Trail. Trailhead has a sign and parking area. Temperatures in the summer can exceed 100 degrees. Bring plenty of water. No services for 35+ miles. Storms mean flash floods and the Burr Trail can become impassible. Check at the visitor center at the park before driving the road.
