• Fossil Creek, Wild & Scenic River - Pine, Arizona

      One of only two wild and scenic rivers in Arizona, Fossil Creek is known for its aqua waters produced by deposits of travertine. A dam was recently removed, allowing the water to flow freely. Hiking, swimming, catch and release fishing are the main activities in this scenic area.

      If you go:
      Located in the Coconino Forest and managed by the USFS. The road from Strawberry is closed until June 2013, though you can hike down from a trailhead just out of Strawberry. Access is from Camp Verde. Take Hwy 260 east to FR 9. Check conditions and check to ensure it is open before driving in. The road is rough. Not suitable for RVs. Camping and fires restricted. See regulations. Portable restrooms. Bring your own water.
