• Dilia, New Mexico - on old Route 66 - La Loma, New Mexico

      Roadtrip Attraction
The 1926-1937 alignment of Route 66 went through Santa Fe, along NM Hwy 84 through towns along the Pecos River like Dilia. Less than 600 people live here today, but there are a few old adobes and red stone buildings. The most outstanding attraction is the picturesque, thick-walled Sacred Heart Church, with its beautiful altar screen and stations of the cross.

      If you go:
You won't find much here except the opportunity to take a few photos of the old church and a Route 66 sign. Get fuel and take water before leaving Route 40 or Las Vegas, NM, for this historic route where the Rockies meet the prairies.
